Community Service Announcement - Urgent Darwin Measles Alert
Darwin is experiencing a small but growing number of measles infections and you or your family members may be at risk.
Measles starts like a cold with coughing, fever, a runny nose and sore eyes.
Later on, a rash spreads over the body.
People can spread it through coughing and sneezing, especially at the start.
Measles can be prevented by a simple vaccination.
Measles can affect us all, but is mainly dangerous for children, young adults, pregnant women and people with weak immune systems.
If you are not sure if you have had the vaccine or if you are already protected, please ask your Aboriginal Health Practitioner, nurse or doctor.
If you or a family member has a cough and a fever, please stay at home. Do not go to your health clinic.
If you feel you need to see an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, nurse or doctor please call your regular health clinic first, or Danila Dilba Health Service and ask to speak to the senior Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
